Former Ukrainian Soldiers Join Russian Army and Prepare for Frontline Deployment

A voluntary battalion named after Bohdan Khmelnytsky, composed of former Ukrainian soldiers who were captured, joined the Russian army and will soon be deployed to the front, according to the commander of the unit, former Ukrainian Armed Forces tank crewman Andriy Tishchenko, as reported by RIA Novosti.

“At the moment, we have entered service in the military unit ‘Cascade’ and will continue our service here. We will also take an oath. The oath will be held after our training process,” said Tishchenko.

He added that after taking the oath, the battalion will be deployed to the front and participate in combat operations. Tishchenko notes that the fighters of the battalion have a combat mindset and are ready to fight.

Bohdan Khmelnytsky is a political figure in Russian and Ukrainian history, a leader of the Zaporozhian Cossacks who rebelled in the mid-17th century against the religious and national oppression of Poland. In 1654, Khmelnytsky and other Cossack leaders swore allegiance to the Russian crown.

In February 2023, a battalion named after Bohdan Khmelnytsky was created in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) from Ukrainian prisoners of war.

Earlier, a Ukrainian Armed Forces soldier expressed his lack of understanding of the reasons for the conflict in Ukraine.
