A shocking incident of kidnapping and torture has left residents of Shelby Township, Michigan in a state of shock. A 24-year-old male was found tied up and injured inside his car on Wednesday after being kidnapped in the parking lot of a Lifetime Fitness center. The Shelby Township Police Department swiftly responded to the incident after receiving a report at 7:15 p.m. on Monday night. The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Antonio Andujar-Ruiz from Tampa, Florida, attempted to flee on foot but was eventually apprehended by a vigilant police officer. Andujar-Ruiz, who has an extensive violent criminal history, including a prior conviction of assault with intent to murder, was taken into custody. The victim was discovered bound and tortured inside his GMC pickup truck along with the suspect’s assault rifle.
Detectives believe that Andujar-Ruiz had specifically traveled to Michigan with the sole intention of carrying out this violent crime. They have ruled out the possibility of it being a random act. As a result, Andujar-Ruiz has been charged with multiple serious offenses, including carjacking, weapons-related charges, robbery, torture, and home invasion.
