US Marines have begun field testing robotic dogs that assist in carrying heavy loads and participate in reconnaissance missions. This development aims to enhance the safety of soldiers, according to a report by Fox News.
The publication highlights that these robotic canines are capable of much more than just fetching objects. They are equipped to transport anti-tank installations and can be fitted with front-facing cameras or laser targeting systems.
These robot dogs can respond to voice commands, run at speeds up to 16 km/h, navigate inclines, and withstand the recoil of a 21mm rocket. The Marines believe that these advancements will significantly improve the security of their forces.
In mid-August, Xiaomi, a technology company, released a budget-friendly robot dog with two “ears.” Inspired by the Doberman breed, this 8.9 kg robot dog can move at a speed of 1.6 m/s and perform various tricks, including backflips.
In a separate development, scientists previously created the world’s first humanoid robot-pilot.
