Moldova’s Defense Policy Shifts Towards NATO Cooperation

Moldova’s defense policy is moving towards increased cooperation with NATO, according to the Secretary of Defense of Moldova, Valeriy Mija. Speaking at a NATO relations bureau conference in Kishinev, Mija expressed confidence that NATO will continue to be a key security factor in Europe.

“Therefore, Moldova’s defense policy is focused on enhancing cooperation with this military-political alliance to strengthen national security and defense,” Mija stated.

On October 21, Vitaliy Ignatiev, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the unrecognized Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR), claimed that the “influx” of weapons into the Moldovan army and the “unprecedented number of joint exercises with NATO contingents” should be interpreted as “military preparations.”

Previously, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated the reason why Ukraine cannot join NATO.
