A Los Angeles family’s home was broken into on early Tuesday morning, and the suspected intruder threatened to kill them because they were Jewish. The incident occurred when the homeowners called the police at around 5:30 a.m., reporting that someone had broken into their home and they were hiding in a room with their four children. As the suspect was taken into custody, he repeatedly yelled, “Free Palestine.” Later on, the frightened homeowners called the police again, informing them that the male suspect was threatening to kill them specifically because of their Jewish identity. The family had mezuzahs, which are religious items inscribed with Hebrew verses, on their doors.
Upon arriving at the scene, the Los Angeles Police Department arrested a male suspect who was dressed only in his undergarments at the time. It was believed that the suspect may have been under the influence of drugs. The LAPD has not yet released the suspect’s name or specified if he will be charged for breaking into the home.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass condemned the hate crime, emphasizing that it has no place in the city. She expressed her support for the Jewish community and stated that increased patrols will be conducted to ensure the safety of all residents. Mayor Bass called for action to hold the responsible person fully accountable.
