Armenian Prime Minister Criticizes Russia’s Military Presence in the Country

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has expressed his dissatisfaction with the continued presence of Russian military bases in Armenia, stating that he sees no advantages in their presence. This statement was reported by The Wall Street Journal.

Pashinyan further emphasized that Armenia is actively seeking new partners as Russia has failed to fulfill its alliance commitments. He highlighted that the events in Nagorno-Karabakh have led Armenia to explore new defense partnerships.

Earlier, the Armenian Foreign Minister, Ararat Mirzoyan, announced that Yerevan has approved Russia’s initiative to open a consulate in the city of Kapan, near the border with Azerbaijan. Mirzoyan stated that the establishment of consulates by several countries in the Syunik region carries political messages.

On September 19, the authorities of Azerbaijan launched a local operation in Karabakh, aiming to prevent “large-scale provocations,” disarm and withdraw Armenian army units from the region.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs previously criticized Pashinyan’s statements about Russia, deeming them unacceptable.
