The Russian Defense Ministry is aiming to enhance the firepower capabilities of its units by arming the “Storm” squads and reconnaissance-assault brigades with large-caliber ASH-12 automatic rifles. According to sources within the military, this move was reported by the newspaper “Izvestia.”
Renowned military expert Vladislav Shurygin believes that the assault squads will play a crucial role on the front lines, considering the prospects of a special military operation. Therefore, the ASH-12 rifle, which possesses extremely powerful ammunition, is expected to demonstrate its effectiveness in urban combat.
In turn, a veteran of special forces units, codenamed “Skat,” emphasized that if the ASH-12 is adopted by the assault squads, a significant stockpile of large-caliber ammunition should be created. This ammunition must be capable of effectively hitting targets protected by defense systems and penetrating shelters and field fortifications.
According to the publication, an experimental batch of ASH-12 rifles has already been sent for testing in the combat zone. The final decision will be made based on the results of these tests.
Earlier, it was reported that Russian special forces had used the ASH-12 large-caliber assault rifles in the area of the self-proclaimed separatist regions.
Previously, Russia had developed a new system for suppressing drones within its territory.
