A shocking hit-and-run incident occurred in Maryland, where a driver struck and killed a man before removing the body from the windshield of his car and fleeing the scene. The victim, 28-year-old Franklin Mendez, was found dead in the street on Ardwick Ardmore Road in Prince George’s County on Saturday, according to the Prince George’s County Police Department.
Police officers were initially responding to a welfare check at around 4:05 a.m. when they discovered the victim’s body, which showed signs of trauma. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that Mendez had been involved in a separate minor collision about two miles away in the 8900 block of Annapolis Road. It is believed that after the collision, Mendez exited his vehicle and was subsequently struck by another car. Instead of stopping, the driver continued to drive to Ardwick Ardmore Road, where he removed Mendez’s body from the windshield and fled the scene.
Thanks to doorbell camera footage, neighbors were able to capture the suspect exiting his car and pulling the victim’s body off the windshield before getting back into his vehicle and driving away. The suspect’s car is described as a gray Honda Civic, believed to be a model from 2011 to 2017. It has a large white decal across the top of the back window and is expected to have damage to its passenger side front bumper and fender, as well as a hole in the windshield.
The Prince George’s County Police Department is seeking the public’s help in identifying the suspect.
