Germany’s Rheinmetall Increases Prices of Artillery Shells for Ukraine by 1.5 Times

German defense conglomerate Rheinmetall has raised the prices of 155mm artillery shells used in the conflict in Ukraine by more than 1.5 times since the start of the special operation. This revelation was reported by Welt.

“Confidential documents reveal how expensive Rheinmetall is selling artillery shells to Ukraine, which are paid for by the federal government,” writes the publication, noting that the price of these shells may soon increase even further.

According to the newspaper’s information, Rheinmetall has entered into a deal with the German government for supplies until 2029, with a total value of €1.2 billion. The document available to Welt states that Rheinmetall will supply 333,333 shells, with an average price of €3600 per shell.

On October 10, it was announced that Rheinmetall had received a third order for the delivery of artillery shells under an agreement with the Bundeswehr. This order includes more than 150,000 shells, with the first batch planned for delivery in 2023 and the rest in 2024.

Prior to this, the Bundeswehr had tasked Rheinmetall with supplying tens of thousands of L15 shells for the Ukrainian armed forces, as well as 155mm Assegai ammunition for the German Armed Forces.

Earlier, it was reported in Germany that they do not intend to supply Kyiv with Taurus missiles in the “foreseeable future.”
