In a recent announcement, the US Department of State revealed that the United States has secured a contract worth $500 million to sell 150 advanced anti-radiation guided missiles (AARGM-ER) of increased range to Finland. Additionally, Lithuania is set to purchase 36 medium-range air-to-air missiles (AMRAAM) for $100 million and 3,000 universal Joint Air-to-Ground Missiles (JAGM) for $957.4 million. These deals have been approved by the US State Department.
This follows the approval of a potential sale of Patriot Configuration-3+ missile defense systems and associated equipment to Spain for a total amount of approximately $2.8 billion.
The US Department of Defense has notified Congress of the agreement reached with the State Department.
The upgraded missile defense system provides five times greater coverage area compared to the previous Patriot system, effectively protecting against all types of ballistic missiles. The Patriot Configuration-3+ missile has a shorter range and smaller explosive warhead compared to older missiles, but it boasts significantly improved efficiency against ballistic missiles.
Earlier, the Netherlands and Denmark confirmed that the United States has approved the shipment of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine.
