Controversy Surrounds Retired General Gal Hirsch as Israeli Special Envoy for Kidnapped Citizens

Retired General Gal Hirsch, appointed as the Israeli special envoy for kidnapped and missing citizens, is facing frequent criticism from within the country’s Ministry of Defense, according to sources cited by the Israeli newspaper “Haaretz.”

The article highlights that Israeli military officials believe Hirsch is unable to effectively fulfill his role or make any significant contribution to the release of hostages. They argue that he is more concerned about his political career rather than dealing with the complex task assigned to him.

Furthermore, the military has condemned a series of recent controversial actions by the retired general. In particular, Hirsch found himself at the center of the first photograph of Israeli captives returning from captivity by Hamas. Additionally, he previously shouted at European ambassadors over the Oslo Agreement, which was signed 30 years ago to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Earlier reports indicated that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) continue to strike dozens of Hamas-affiliated targets in the Gaza Strip.

Previously, the timeframe for Israel’s ground operation in Gaza was announced in the United States.
