Hamas Attacks City in Israel in Response to Violence Against Civilians

Hamas militants have launched an attack on the city of Ashkelon in southwestern Israel, according to a statement released by the Palestinian movement’s Telegram channel.

The statement specified that members of Hamas’ military wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, took part in the operation. Hamas representatives emphasized that the attack was in response to the use of violence against peaceful civilians.

“The brigades… launched rocket strikes on Ashkelon,” the publication stated.

On October 17, Ashkelon was also targeted by Hamas shelling. Palestinian movement representatives clarified that rocket strikes were carried out on the populated area, but further details of the incident were not disclosed.

On October 21, Avichai Adrei, spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), announced that the country had imposed a complete blockade on the Gaza Strip. He also indicated that Israeli forces were prepared to initiate the next stage of military action, which includes a ground operation in the Palestinian enclave.

According to Adrei, the army command has not set any deadlines for the completion of the operation. It is expected to continue until the IDF fighters have achieved their assigned objectives.

Previously, Hamas members refused to engage in negotiations with Israel regarding the release of prisoners until a ceasefire is reached in the Gaza Strip.
