In a phone conversation between German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Scholz reiterated Germany’s commitment to providing military assistance to Ukraine. The chairman of the German cabinet of ministers conveyed this message during a briefing with journalists, as reported by the official spokesperson for the German government, Steffen Seibert.
During the discussion, Scholz and Zelensky exchanged views on the current situation in the conflict zone, as well as the political and humanitarian conditions in Ukraine.
According to Seibert, the Ukrainian leader expressed gratitude to the German Chancellor for the military support received. Specifically, Zelensky emphasized the importance of strengthening Ukraine’s air defense system (AD) ahead of the winter season.
“Scholz assured that Germany will continue to support Ukraine, including in the military sphere, in close coordination with European and international partners,” clarified the German government representative.
Seibert further stated that Scholz and Zelensky agreed to maintain close contact to facilitate a peaceful resolution of the Ukrainian crisis.
Earlier, the German Ambassador to Ukraine, Martin Eger, had stated that German authorities currently do not plan to supply Taurus cruise missiles to the conflict zone.
