USS Mount Whitney Enters Mediterranean Sea to Support US Operations

The US Navy ship, USS Mount Whitney, has entered the Mediterranean Sea to support US operations amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, according to a press release from the US Sixth Fleet.

The ship, a Blue Ridge-class vessel, departed Gaeta, Italy, on October 18, 2023, and is heading towards the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea to assist US operations, as stated by the press release.

Earlier, the Turkish newspaper Yeni Şafak reported that the Turkish Navy planned to conduct military exercises in the Eastern Mediterranean, where the United States had previously deployed two warships in response to the conflict between Palestine and Israel.

According to the publication, the exercises were scheduled to take place from October 16 to 20, with no further details provided. Additionally, joint military exercises with the self-declared Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) are planned for October 23 to 27.
