Hamas militants belonging to the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the organization, have expressed their preparedness to engage in prolonged combat against the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). This announcement was made by Abu Obeida, a representative of the group, in the official Telegram channel of the brigade.
“We are ready for extended battles,” he stated.
Prior to this, Israeli forces were given the green light for an incursion into the Gaza Strip. On October 7th, Hamas forces launched thousands of rockets into Israeli territory, initiating the “Flood of Al-Aqsa” operation. Thousands of militants infiltrated Israeli territory, seizing dozens of military vehicles and taking over a hundred hostages. Against this backdrop, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu declared that the country was in a state of war.
The counter-operation by the Israeli Defense Forces has been named “Iron Swords,” with one of its objectives being the destruction of Hamas. The Israeli Air Force carried out strikes on hundreds of Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip, and the Israeli National Security Council decided to halt the supply of water, food, goods, electricity, and fuel to the region. On October 13th, Israel informed the United Nations that 1.1 million Palestinians must be evacuated to the south of Gaza within 24 hours in anticipation of a ground operation.
