President Biden Announces Unprecedented Support Package for Israel’s Defense and Efforts to Rescue Hostages

President Biden gives remarks from Israel after meeting with President Isaac Herzog. President Biden, speaking in Israel Wednesday, emphasized the importance of the release and safe return of hostages captured by the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas. He announced plans to seek an unprecedented support package for Israel’s defense from the United States Congress. Biden also highlighted the deployment of U.S. military assets to the region, including the positioning of the USS Ford carrier strike group in the eastern Mediterranean and the USS Eisenhower on the way, to deter further aggression and prevent the conflict from spreading.

Addressing the issue of hostages, Biden assured families that they are not alone and that efforts are being made to bring home those held captive by Hamas. Currently, Hamas is reportedly holding around 199 Israelis and other foreign nationals, with 13 Americans remaining unaccounted for since the beginning of the conflict with Israel.

In addition to the focus on hostage rescue, Biden announced $100 million in new U.S. funding for humanitarian assistance in both Gaza and the West Bank. This funding aims to support over 1 million displaced and conflict-affected Palestinians, including emergency needs in Gaza. Biden expressed his grief for the loss of innocent Palestinian lives and emphasized the United States’ commitment to the protection of civilian life during conflicts.

Biden also urged the Israeli cabinet to agree to the delivery of lifesaving humanitarian assistance to civilians in Gaza, with the condition that the aid goes directly to civilians and not to Hamas. He concluded his speech by reaffirming his commitment to pursuing peace and a two-state solution, expressing his determination to strengthen Israel’s integration with its neighbors.

The President’s remarks in Israel reflect his dedication to supporting Israel’s defense, rescuing hostages, and providing humanitarian assistance. The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas continues to be a significant concern, with efforts focused on securing the release of hostages and mitigating the humanitarian crisis in the region. The United States stands with Israel in its pursuit of peace and security, working towards a two-state solution for the benefit of both Israel and the Palestinian people.
