A New Jersey man has been charged with terrorism after a shocking incident where he crashed his car into a home and then into a police station while blaring Guns N’ Roses’ “Welcome to the Jungle.” In another bizarre turn of events, a Florida man attempted to evade police by leaving a message on a whiteboard that officers found hard to believe.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office in Florida was searching for 41-year-old Johnny Yates at a residence in Lakeland when they encountered a whiteboard message outside the home stating that “Johnny Yates does NOT live here!” The sheriff’s office humorously questioned the credibility of the message in a Facebook post. However, deputies were not deceived and their suspicions were confirmed by an individual leaving the house who revealed that Yates was indeed inside with a few others.
Officers surrounded the house and demanded Yates to surrender through a loudspeaker, but there was no response from anyone inside. Frustrated by the lack of cooperation, the Sheriff’s Office decided to use “Surrender Smoke” inside the home, leading four individuals to exit. Despite these developments, Yates remained elusive and could not be located.
Determined to apprehend Yates, deputies resorted to using a “second helping” of the smoke and eventually released a K-9 to aid in the search. Ultimately, Yates was discovered hiding in a modified chest of drawers and was subsequently arrested and taken into custody.
In the meantime, the four uncooperative occupants of the house were also charged with resisting arrest and were given an “all-expense paid trip to Grady Judd’s Bed & Breakfast,” as mentioned in the Facebook post.
This incident highlights the extraordinary lengths some individuals are willing to go to evade law enforcement. The swift action and persistence of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office ultimately led to the arrest of a wanted suspect and the resolution of a potentially dangerous situation.
