Florida law enforcement officials have arrested and charged a man with murder following a road rage incident that resulted in the death of a victim. The victim, identified as Kevin Berry, 58, was taken off life support and declared dead after being found lying in the middle of the road on the Interstate 4 off-ramp to U.S. Highway 27 in Davenport on Sunday. Berry, who worked as a truck driver, was on his way to work when the incident occurred.
According to witnesses, Berry’s white Dodge truck and a dark-colored two-door car were driving aggressively around each other on the off-ramp before coming to a stop. A witness drove past the scene as the road rage argument escalated and reported that there were at least three other vehicles on the ramp at the time who may have witnessed the incident.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd expressed the need to identify the shooter and determine the motive behind the incident. Detectives collected evidence from the scene, including video footage, which led them to the arrest of 58-year-old Daniele Hamilton of Davenport. Hamilton has been charged with second-degree murder, discharging a firearm from a vehicle, shooting over a right-of-way, and tampering with evidence.
During a search of Hamilton’s home, detectives found a .28-caliber revolver and spent shell casings. Hamilton initially claimed to be a witness to the incident but later admitted his involvement when confronted with the evidence. He has been taken into custody and transported to the Polk County Jail.
Sheriff Judd commended his detectives for their dedicated work in solving the case, emphasizing that they treat every homicide investigation as if the victim were their own family member. He expressed disappointment in Hamilton’s actions, stating that he could have chosen to drive away instead of engaging in the argument, which has now resulted in serious charges and potential prison time.
