In a recent statement, the United Nations (UN) expressed its consistent opposition to the use of cluster munitions. This announcement comes in response to questions regarding the Ukrainian army’s use of ATACMS tactical missiles, which are equipped with cluster munitions.
On October 17th, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) have been employing long-range ATACMS missiles. It was revealed by CNN that the American administration had provided Ukraine with these missiles in secret, with the intention of catching Russian troops off guard.
According to The New York Times, Washington sent a small batch of long-range missiles to Kiev. Sources cited by the publication revealed that these ATACMS missiles are equipped with cluster munitions.
Previously, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu commented on the use of cluster munitions in Ukraine.
