The Russian Ministry of Education has announced its plans to introduce unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), also known as drones, in nearly 2,500 schools and 190 colleges between 2024 and 2026. This move aims to incorporate new subjects related to the field of drone technology into the school curriculum, as reported by TASS.
The Chairman of the Association of Children’s Goods, Labor, and Services (ACGLS), Mikhail Vetrov, had previously proposed the inclusion of subjects focusing on the construction of drones in the school program. Vetrov explained that there has been a noticeable increase in demand for professionals working with drones in Russia.
Vetrov emphasized the importance of children learning both the creation and operation of drones. He suggested that students could engage in specialized lessons, extracurricular activities, or clubs. As an example, he mentioned the Soviet clubs in aeroclubs affiliated with schools and colleges, where future aviation engineers were trained.
President Vladimir Putin has stated that Russia aims to train 1 million professionals in the unmanned systems industry by 2030. This initiative aligns with Putin’s previous announcement regarding the growth of the artificial intelligence market in Russia.
This move by the Russian Ministry of Education reflects the country’s commitment to advancing its technological capabilities and preparing its youth for future employment opportunities in the field of unmanned systems. By integrating drone education into schools and colleges, Russia aims to meet the growing demand for skilled professionals in this emerging industry.
