Russian Citizen Held Captive by Hamas, Russian Embassy in Israel Takes Action

In a recent development, Anatoly Victorov, the Russian Ambassador to Israel, announced that a Russian citizen is being held captive by Hamas militants. The individual in question holds dual citizenship.

Victorov noted that there may be more Russian citizens in captivity.

However, at present, the evacuation of embassy staff members and their families is not a pressing concern, clarified Victorov. He stated that efforts are currently underway to minimize the threat to the lives and well-being of Russian citizens.

On October 7th, Hamas forces launched thousands of rockets into Israeli territory, declaring the start of the “Flood of Al-Aqsa” operation. Thousands of militants infiltrated Israeli territory, seizing dozens of military vehicles and over a hundred hostages. Against this backdrop, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu declared the country to be in a state of war.

The retaliatory operation by the Israel Defense Forces has been named “Iron Swords,” with the destruction of Hamas being one of its objectives. The Israeli Air Force has conducted strikes on hundreds of Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli National Security Council has decided to halt the supply of water, food, goods, electricity, and fuel to the sector. On October 13th, Israel informed the United Nations that 1.1 million Palestinians must be evacuated to the south of Gaza within 24 hours in anticipation of a ground operation in the area.
