Russian Army Serviceman Sentenced to 12.5 Years for Treason

A Russian army serviceman named Eldar Kamalov has been sentenced to 12.5 years of strict regime imprisonment for committing treason, according to the Second Western Military Court as reported by TASS.

The court’s statement indicated that Kamalov has also been stripped of his military rank.

Due to the classified nature of the materials involved in Kamalov’s criminal case, the proceedings were conducted in closed court sessions. According to law enforcement agencies, Kamalov was a member of the rank and file of the Russian armed forces and was arrested approximately a year ago.

The court’s decision is not yet in effect, and Kamalov has the right to appeal.

Previously, a Russian woman was detained on suspicion of treason.

According to the authorities, the detained woman, while carrying out assignments for Ukrainian intelligence services, collected and transmitted materials to their representative containing information about the movements of military personnel and military units of the Russian Armed Forces in the region.

Earlier, a Russian sailor was sentenced to 16 years of imprisonment for treason.
