Hamas Claims to Have 200-250 Hostages, Situation Escalates in Gaza

In a recent statement, Abu Ubaida, the representative of the militant wing of the Palestinian movement Hamas, known as the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, claimed that they currently hold between 200 and 250 hostages. This revelation was reported by Al Hadath.

According to Ubaida, “200 Israeli prisoners are directly held by the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, while the rest are held by other groups.”

On October 15th, Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad discussed with Russian President Vladimir Putin the possibilities of resolving the conflict in the Gaza Strip. The leaders also emphasized the urgent need for humanitarian aid to be delivered to the region.

On October 7th, Hamas forces launched thousands of rockets into Israeli territory, initiating the “Al-Aqsa Flood” operation. Thousands of militants infiltrated Israeli territory, capturing dozens of military vehicles and over a hundred hostages. In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared a state of war.

The Israeli Defense Forces’ counter-operation, named “Operation Iron Swords,” aims to destroy Hamas. The Israeli Air Force has conducted strikes on hundreds of Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip, while the Israeli National Security Council has decided to halt the supply of water, food, goods, electricity, and fuel to the region. On October 13th, Israel informed the United Nations that 1.1 million Palestinians must evacuate to the south of Gaza within 24 hours in anticipation of a ground operation.
