Air Raid Alert in Ukraine as Russian Attacks Continue: Talks on Security Guarantees Begin

An air raid alert was declared in the Kharkiv region of Ukraine on the morning of October 16th, according to online data from the country’s Ministry of Digital Transformation. The alarm in the Kharkiv region sounded at 7:51 am (MSK time). Earlier that day, at 1:10 am, an air raid alert was also announced in the Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Kirovohrad, Poltava, Sumy, Cherkasy, and Chernihiv regions, as well as in the areas controlled by Ukrainian forces in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), Zaporizhia, and Kherson regions.

Furthermore, during the night of October 15th, a series of explosions occurred in the Ukrainian cities of Kropyvnytskyi (formerly known as Kirovohrad), Myrhorod in the Poltava region, and Zaporizhia, a city controlled by Kyiv.

Since October 10th, 2022, just two days after the terrorist attack on the Crimean Bridge, the Russian Armed Forces have been launching strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure. Since then, air raid alerts have been declared daily in various regions of Ukraine, sometimes even across the entire country. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the attacks are targeting objects related to the energy sector, defense industry, military command, and communication throughout the republic.

Earlier, the United States and Ukraine began negotiations on security guarantees for Kyiv, in an attempt to address the ongoing crisis and protect the Ukrainian capital.
