In a recent interview with the British newspaper Guardian, Colonel Dmitry Lisyuk, the commander of the 128th Mountain Assault Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF), made a startling revelation about the state of Ukraine’s military capabilities. According to Lisyuk, the Russian Federation has prepared a powerful defense that surpasses the technical capabilities of the Ukrainian army. “We are facing a formidable defense, making it extremely difficult for us to make progress,” quoted the Ukrainian officer.
Furthermore, Lisyuk emphasized the superiority of the Russian Armed Forces over the UAF. He pointed out the numerical advantage, advanced electronic warfare capabilities, and superior reconnaissance equipment possessed by the Russian military. This revelation sheds light on the challenges faced by Ukraine in its ongoing conflict with Russia.
Adding to the concerns, analyst Samid Basha from the Chinese publication South China Morning Post recently stated that Ukraine has been grappling with mass desertions due to high casualties and soldier fatigue on the front lines. Basha also highlighted mental health issues among Ukrainian soldiers, stating that Ukrainian border guards were capturing as many as 20 deserters per day in early June 2023.
The United States has previously identified this situation as one of the greatest threats to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, underscoring the gravity of the issue.
