Majority of Americans Believe President Biden Acted Illegally or Unethically in Handling Son’s Business Dealings, Poll Shows

In a recent poll conducted by AP-NORC, the majority of Americans expressed their belief that President Joe Biden has acted either illegally or unethically in his handling of the controversial business dealings of his son, Hunter. The poll, which sampled 1,163 adults nationwide between October 5-9, reveals that only 30% of American adults believe Biden has “not done anything wrong” in this regard, while a significant 68% believe the president has acted either illegally or unethically.

Among the respondents, 35% indicated that they believed President Biden had done something illegal, while 33% said they believed he had done something unethical. The poll further breaks down these responses by party affiliation, showing that 40% of Democrats believe Biden has done something illegal or unethical, with 58% indicating that the president has done nothing wrong. Of those who believe Biden has acted wrongly, 8% said he acted illegally and 32% said he acted unethically. On the other hand, a staggering 96% of Republicans believe Biden has done something wrong, with 65% responding that he has acted illegally and 35% indicating they believe he has acted unethically.

The poll comes in the midst of Republicans launching an impeachment inquiry into President Biden over his handling of Hunter Biden’s business dealings. However, the poll reveals that most respondents do not approve of this GOP move, with only a third (33%) expressing strong or somewhat approval of the impeachment inquiry, while 39% indicated strong or somewhat disapproval. Another 26% of respondents did not provide a clear indication of their approval or disapproval. Notably, 67% of Republicans said they either strongly or somewhat approve of the inquiry, compared to only 11% who disapprove. Conversely, only 7% of Democrats approve of the inquiry, with 73% expressing disapproval.

Interestingly, a significant percentage of the public remains unfamiliar with the impeachment inquiry, with only 54% of respondents indicating they are familiar with the current process. Among those who are aware of it, 49% expressed disapproval of the impeachment inquiry.

The poll also sheds light on public opinion regarding which party is better suited to root out government corruption. The results show that 19% of respondents believe Republicans are better suited, while 28% indicated Democrats. Another 14% said both parties are equally trustworthy in this regard, while 38% expressed their lack of trust in either party.

It is important to note that the AP-NORC poll has a margin of error of +/- 3.9 percentage points. The White House has not yet responded to a request for comment regarding the poll’s findings.

As the debate surrounding President Biden’s handling of his son’s business dealings continues, this poll highlights the divided opinions among Americans and the significant impact it may have on the political landscape moving forward.
