In a devastating incident, a Ukrainian drone strike in the Belgorod region has left 29-year-old Afghan journalist from Sputnik, Haibar Akifi, and his wife Olesya injured. Tragically, their four-year-old daughter, Amina, lost her life. The news was confirmed by Dmitry Kiselyov, the CEO of the media group “Russia Today”. Akifi and his wife are currently in critical condition and receiving treatment in the intensive care unit. Amina’s maternal grandparents also lost their lives in the incident.
Kiselyov expressed that every possible effort is being made to support the family, including arranging for their transfer to Moscow for further medical assistance. He also highlighted previous losses suffered by journalists, such as Andrey Stenin and Rostislav Zhuravlev.
On October 12, it was announced by the regional governor, Vyacheslav Gladkov, that the number of casualties from the drone crash in Belgorod had risen to three. Sadly, a child became trapped under the debris and lost their life. Governor Gladkov stated that the unmanned aerial vehicle crashed after being hit by air defense systems. As a result of the crash, two residential buildings were destroyed, and several other homes and vehicles were damaged.
Earlier, the ambassador had provided updates on the investigation into the deaths of Russian journalists in the Central African Republic.
