Russia to Replace Transport Aircraft with New Il-212 Jets

Russia is set to replace its transport aircraft with the new Il-212 jets, which will feature turbojet engines instead of turboprop engines, according to sources in the defense industry. The Il-112V project will undergo significant modifications and receive a new designation as the Il-212. The new aircraft will retain most of the equipment, avionics, and fuselage of its predecessor, the Il-112V. However, it will be equipped with turbojet engines PD-8 instead of turboprop engines TV-117C. The wings and landing gear of the aircraft will also be modified, and new fuel and hydraulic systems will be installed.

One notable feature of the new aircraft will be the placement of the engines above the wings, similar to the An-72. This design allows for increased climbing speed and enables the aircraft to operate from unprepared runways and dirt airstrips.

Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the resolution of the issue regarding light transport aircraft. It was previously reported that Russian aircraft have been experiencing more frequent bird strikes.

This development in Russia’s defense industry marks an important milestone in the country’s efforts to modernize its transport fleet. The Il-212 jets will provide enhanced capabilities and performance, ensuring efficient and reliable transportation for the Russian Aerospace Forces.
