Foiled Attempt of Sabotage at Military Base in Arkhangelsk

Russian security forces, in collaboration with colleagues from the Northern Fleet and the police, have successfully prevented an attempted sabotage at a military base in Arkhangelsk. This information was reported by the press service of the regional Federal Security Service (FSS), as cited by “Interfax.”

It has been revealed that an 18-year-old Russian citizen, acting upon the orders of a banned terrorist organization within the country, attempted to set fire to military equipment using a homemade mixture within the military base premises. The suspect was apprehended by law enforcement officials during the attempt in September of this year. The young man is now facing criminal charges under Article 30, Part 3, and Article 205, Part 1 of the Russian Federation Criminal Code, for attempted crime and terrorist act.

Prior to this incident, it was reported that a cashier at a chain supermarket in Zelenodolsk was arrested for attempting to set fire to a draft board. The 49-year-old woman was coerced into committing the crime by telephone scammers. In a separate case, an elderly woman mortgaged her apartment, obtained loans, and handed over 5 million rubles to fraudsters.

It is important to note the swift action taken by the security forces in preventing potential acts of sabotage and terrorism, safeguarding the military base and the lives of personnel. These incidents highlight the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in countering the influence of banned terrorist organizations within Russia.
