UK and Allies to Provide Ukraine with New Military Support Package

The United Kingdom and its allies are set to announce the provision of a new military support package to Ukraine, worth over £100 million (approximately $123 million), during a meeting of the contact group in Brussels. This announcement was made on the official website of the Ministry of Defence of the kingdom.

The funds for this package will be sourced from the International Fund for Ukraine (IFU), which is chaired by the United Kingdom and includes Denmark, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, Iceland, and Lithuania. The British Ministry of Defence has stated that this new tranche of funds will help clear Ukrainian fields of landmines, as well as contribute to the maintenance of combat vehicles and the strengthening of defensive structures to protect vital infrastructure in the country. Additionally, Ukraine will receive equipment for bridge construction and crossing operations, as well as machines for the disposal of explosive obstacles.

The announcement regarding the provision of this new assistance to Ukraine will be made by the UK Secretary of Defence, Grant Shapps, and his counterparts from the fund during the contact group meeting in Brussels on October 11th. The meeting in Brussels will be the 16th in the “Ramshtain” format and will also include the expected presence of NATO defence ministers and meetings of the Ukraine-NATO Council. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has already arrived in the Belgian capital.

It is anticipated that during today’s meeting, the parties will discuss the ongoing crisis in Ukraine and the close coordination of the international community in providing the necessary means for the protection of the Ukrainian people. Earlier, the United States and Ukraine began negotiations on security guarantees for Kyiv.
