Kaitlin Armstrong, who has been in custody since last year in connection with the alleged love triangle murder of pro cyclist Anna Moriah ‘Mo’ Wilson, was arrested again after attempting to flee from deputies following a doctor’s appointment. Armstrong, a former high school track star from Austin, Texas, was transported for the appointment when she made a run for it while exiting the medical building. After a 10-minute foot chase, she was apprehended and taken to a local hospital for a check-up before being returned to custody.
Armstrong had been arrested in Costa Rica last year after a 43-day manhunt and was accused of shooting Wilson on May 11, 2022. During her time in Costa Rica, she had allegedly changed her appearance and assumed a new identity. Armstrong’s defense attorney, Rick Cofer, has not yet commented on the alleged escape attempt.
The incident occurred shortly after Wilson had returned to a friend’s apartment following a night out with Armstrong’s live-in boyfriend, Colin Strickland. Armstrong is accused of gunning down Wilson in a bathroom, where she was later found by a friend. Surveillance video captured Armstrong’s Jeep near the scene, and a shell casing found matched a handgun seized from Armstrong and Strickland’s home.
Despite Strickland repeatedly telling detectives that he did not believe Armstrong would have shot Wilson and describing her as a kind and caring person, Armstrong remains the prime suspect in the case. She had initially been questioned by police on May 12 but was released without being charged. She then fled the state, taking a plane to New York and eventually leaving the country.
Armstrong was eventually captured in Costa Rica and sent back to the U.S. on an immigration violation. She has since been held in the Travis County Jail on a $3.5 million bail. The court has issued a gag order on the case, but prior to that, Armstrong’s defense disputed the prosecution’s claim that she saw Wilson as a romantic rival.
In addition to the murder case, Armstrong is also accused of running out on her bill for a $650 Botox procedure at a spa in 2018.
