Approximately 140,000 Palestinians residing in the Gaza Strip have fled their homes and sought refuge in designated shelters to escape the bombardments and shelling by the Israeli army. This information was reported by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA), as cited by RIA Novosti.
According to the UNRWA, there are currently 137,000 individuals taking shelter in specially designed facilities for refugees and displaced persons in the Gaza Strip. Representatives of the agency are concerned about the potential increase in the number of Palestinians seeking refuge in these facilities. Currently, the UNRWA facilities in the Gaza Strip are already 90% occupied.
Earlier reports stated that as of 20:00 Moscow time on October 9th, the Israeli army had targeted 1,707 extremist targets in the Gaza Strip.
Israeli political analyst and Middle East security expert, Simon Tsipis, previously expressed his opinion that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) would not employ tanks in the Gaza Strip, relying solely on infantry. He stated that this measure is necessary to minimize civilian casualties.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had previously urged residents of the Gaza Strip to evacuate.
