Ted Cruz Raises $5.4 Million for Re-Election Bid, Preparing for Tough Fight in 2024

Senator Ted Cruz of Texas has made significant progress in his fundraising efforts as he gears up for his re-election campaign in 2024. According to figures released on Monday, Cruz raised $5.4 million during the July-September third quarter of 2023 fundraising, marking a notable increase from previous quarters. With over $6.7 million cash on hand, Cruz’s campaign is well-positioned to compete in the upcoming election.

The Cruz campaign emphasized the momentum and excitement surrounding the senator’s bid, with over 34,000 donors, including 10,000 new contributors. The average contribution during the quarter was $40.30, highlighting the broad support Cruz enjoys both within Texas and across all 50 states. This surge in fundraising demonstrates the growing enthusiasm among Texans to re-elect Cruz and maintain the state’s conservative values and ideas.

Cruz himself acknowledges the upcoming election will be a tough battle, as Democrats are already lining up to challenge him in 2024. After narrowly defeating Beto O’Rourke in a closely contested 2018 Senate race, Cruz has become a prime target for Democrats. He proudly declares that there is no Republican in the country that Democrats hate more than him, wearing it as a badge of honor.

However, Cruz faces the challenge of fundraising, as Rep. Colin Allred, one of the prominent Democrats running against him, raised nearly $2 million more than Cruz during the second quarter of 2023. Allred’s third quarter fundraising is yet to be announced, adding to the anticipation surrounding the race.

The Cruz campaign’s fundraising success is a combined effort across three entities: Ted Cruz for Senate, Ted Cruz Victory Committee, and Jobs, Freedom & Security PAC. While the leadership PAC cannot directly contribute to Cruz’s re-election campaign, the joint fundraising committee and the campaign committee have been instrumental in accumulating funds.

The upcoming election is crucial for both parties, as Senate Democrats defend their narrow majority. Republicans need to gain one or two seats in 2024 to regain control, depending on the outcome of the presidential election. With Democrats defending 23 of the 34 seats up for grabs, Republicans have a favorable math and map advantage.
