Israel Launches Massive Strikes on Hamas and Islamic Jihad Targets in Gaza

In the early hours of October 9th, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), including fighter jets and helicopters, conducted strikes on over 500 targets belonging to the radical Palestinian movement Hamas and the organization Islamic Jihad in the Gaza Strip. The IDF’s press office announced the attacks through their Telegram channel.

The strikes targeted seven command centers of Hamas and one command center of Islamic Jihad. Additionally, the IDF carried out strikes on several multi-story buildings, one of which housed the residence of Hamas Secretary Ruhi Mashta and a member of the decision-making group of the organization. The command center of a Palestinian movement responsible for orchestrating attacks on Israel was also hit.

Furthermore, Israeli aircraft targeted a building that was being used by a high-ranking Hamas naval forces militant. In the Beit Hanoun area, three tunnels used by terrorists were also shelled. The aviation forces struck two Hamas facilities, one of which was located inside a mosque.

“The IDF will continue to strike in the Gaza Strip and weaken the capabilities of terrorist organizations,” stated the IDF’s press office. On October 7th, Hamas launched several thousand rockets into Israeli territory, declaring the start of the “Flood of Al-Aqsa” operation. In response, Israel’s Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, declared a state of emergency in the country. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that the country is in a state of war. The IDF’s operation against Hamas has been named “Operation Iron Swords.”
