On the other hand, Bush and Tlaib expressed their concerns about the ongoing violence and loss of lives, but also called for an end to US government support for Israel. Bush stated, “As part of achieving a just and lasting peace, we must do our part to stop this violence and trauma by ending US government support for Israeli military occupation and apartheid.”
Tlaib condemned the “unconditional funding” provided to support what she referred to as an “apartheid government.” She called for lifting the blockade, ending the occupation, and dismantling the apartheid system, stressing that these conditions lead to resistance and perpetuate the cycle of violence.
The differing views within Congress reflect the larger divide among Americans regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. As the conflict escalates, the death toll continues to rise, with at least 800 Israelis and more than 300 people in Gaza killed so far.
