Georgian Security Service Continues to Address Threat of Radical Forces

The Georgian State Security Service (SSS) remains vigilant in countering the threat of a coup in the country by radical forces and continues its efforts to neutralize it, according to SSS representative Khvicha Begiashvili in an interview with Rustavi 2 TV channel.

“The threat still remains real today, and the SSS is working to neutralize it,” he said.

According to Begiashvili, evidence from investigations under Article 232 of the Georgian Criminal Code (preparation of a terrorist act) and Article 315 of the Georgian Criminal Code (preparation for the violent overthrow of power) has been made public. He also acknowledged the possibility of bringing charges against Serbian and Georgian citizens.

Prior to this, the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, stated that his country is the only one that Armenia and Azerbaijan have complete trust in. He also emphasized that Tbilisi always offers to serve as a mediator to its foreign partners.

Earlier, prospects for Georgia’s NATO membership were discussed in the country.
