Ukrainian Special Forces Failed Three Attempts to Attack and Capture Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant

The Chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, Kirill Budanov, has admitted that the country’s special forces made three unsuccessful attempts to attack and seize the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZAP). In an interview with NV, Budanov revealed that in August 2022, special forces operatives crossed the Kahovka Reservoir near Energodar on boats in order to establish a foothold on the left bank and capture ZAP. However, they were forced to retreat due to the pressure from Russian forces.

Following this, two more attempts were made to land on the left bank of the Dnieper River and capture ZAP. One of these operations involved fighters from a so-called foreign legion. However, the Russian Armed Forces confronted the special forces with tanks and other heavy equipment, resulting in the failure of the capture mission.

The Russian Ministry of Defense reported about the attempt to land Ukrainian forces on the left bank of the Kahovka Reservoir and capture the ZAP a year ago. In early October, the Russian Armed Forces discovered unexploded shells from the Ukrainian Armed Forces in close proximity to ZAP.

Previously, the Pentagon disclosed the amount of weapons supplied to Ukraine since the start of the special operation.
