In a recent announcement, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that units of the Western Group of Forces successfully repelled nine counterattacks from the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) in the Kupyansk direction. According to the ministry, these counterattacks were effectively countered by the coordinated actions of the military units, supported by airstrikes, artillery fire, and heavy flamethrower systems. The attacks targeted the 32nd, 44th, 66th mechanized, and 4th tank brigades in the areas of Novoselovskoye and Makeevka in the Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR), as well as Oryanka in the Kharkiv region.
The Ministry of Defense also reported that Russian servicemen inflicted damage on personnel and equipment belonging to the 25th airborne and 115th mechanized brigades of the UAF in the areas of Synkovka in the Kharkiv region and Novoselovskoye in the LPR. The enemy’s losses were estimated to be up to 170 military personnel, one tank, two combat armored vehicles, and three pickup trucks.
Additionally, the ministry stated that during the counter-battery struggle, Russian servicemen targeted a self-propelled artillery installation called “Gvozdika” and an American counter-battery radar station AN/TPQ-50 in the vicinity of Peschany in the Kharkiv region.
On October 8, Sergey Zybinsky, the spokesperson for the Western Group of Forces, announced that Russian attack helicopters Ka-52, Mi-28, and ground attack aircraft had carried out 12 rocket and bomb strikes on concentrations of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kupyansk direction over the past 24 hours.
Earlier, former American intelligence officer Scott Ritter expressed concerns that Ukraine might lose control over Kharkiv and Kupyansk due to the inability of the UAF to hold their defenses.
Previously, a UAF fighter voiced his confusion about the reasons behind the conflict in Ukraine.
