Political analyst Alexander Kargin believes that Hamas may seek assistance from Iran in the ongoing conflict, but warns that Iran’s involvement could lead to a significant regional confrontation, as reported by “Izvestia” newspaper. “Hamas is likely to call on Iran to get involved in this conflict in one way or another. However, I don’t think it will come to that. Iran itself understands that it would have extremely negative consequences. Involvement of Iran would lead to a large-scale regional war with a high number of casualties and, most likely, repercussions for the entire world,” stated Kargin.
According to the political analyst, Israel is prepared to open a second front against the Lebanese movement Hezbollah in the north, which threatened to attack Israel in case of a ground operation in the Gaza Strip. Kargin notes that Israel is strategically stronger than Hezbollah or Hamas, but on October 7, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) suffered a significant “tactical setback.”
Previously, the United States stated that they cannot confirm Iran’s involvement in the attack on Israel. Tehran officially supported the attack by Hamas and Islamic Jihad militants (an organization banned in Russia), with Iranian officials blaming Israel entirely for the escalation of the conflict. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu had previously promised to destroy Hamas.
