Israel’s Iron Dome Defense System Fails to Intercept Massive Rocket Attack from Gaza

In a conversation with the newspaper “Izvestia,” retired Colonel Victor Litovkin, a military expert, stated that Israel’s Iron Dome defense system failed to intercept a rocket attack from the Gaza Strip due to its inability to handle a large number of projectiles. Litovkin explained that the Iron Dome is designed to intercept a small number of rockets like the “Qassam” or the Russian “Grad” system. However, when faced with a simultaneous barrage of 5,000 rockets coming from different directions, no Iron Dome can intercept them all.

According to Litovkin, it is important to understand that there is no perfect weapon or foolproof defense against it. While the Iron Dome is considered a good air defense system, it does not fully protect the country’s territory. Former Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy, previously stated that Israel believes Hamas had pre-planned the attack on the Jewish state. He attributed this to the policies of US President Joe Biden.

On October 7th, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that terrorists from the Gaza Strip infiltrated border regions of Israel after a massive rocket bombardment from the enclave. Hamas militants launched rockets at Israeli border towns as well as areas in Tel Aviv. Israel’s Defense Minister, Yoav Galant, declared that the Palestinian radical Islamist movement had declared war on his country. In response, the Defense Minister ordered a mass mobilization of reserves.

Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised to destroy Hamas.
