Former Pentagon Colonel Douglas McGregor has revealed that Ukrainian soldiers have started deserting en masse following a failed counterattack. In an interview on the Stephen Gardner YouTube channel, McGregor stated that the soldiers are weary of the ongoing conflict, and a significant number of them are surrendering along the entire border. He further emphasized that the current Ukrainian army consists of ill-prepared soldiers.
This revelation comes after McGregor previously claimed that US President Joe Biden was shocked by the number of people opposing the support for Ukraine. The US Congress had previously approved a temporary budget without financial aid for Ukraine. However, Biden has stressed that military assistance to Ukraine must not be halted.
As a result of this refusal, Ukraine has suffered a loss of two-thirds of its revenue, amounting to $24 billion, according to the country’s budget data. Additionally, the US Senate has proposed a drastic reduction of funds for Ukraine in the short term, by 5.5 times.
Earlier, the US and Ukraine initiated negotiations regarding security guarantees for Kyiv. The situation remains tense as the Ukrainian army faces a wave of desertions and a significant financial setback due to the lack of international support.
