Russian Peacekeepers Close Observation Post in Nagorno-Karabakh

Russian peacekeepers have closed an observation post in the Askeran district of Nagorno-Karabakh due to the withdrawal of guard posts, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense. The Russian peacekeepers have provided escort for the work of the joint group of Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan.

The Ministry stated that no ceasefire violations have been recorded in the Russian peacekeeping contingent’s area of responsibility. As part of the disarmament and withdrawal from the line of contact, one observation post in the Askeran district will be closed.

Earlier, it was reported that armed formations in Nagorno-Karabakh had handed over about 14 million rounds of ammunition. On September 19, 2023, Azerbaijan announced the start of an “anti-terrorist operation” in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Previously, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that armed formations located in Karabakh had surrendered about three million rounds of ammunition. The following day, Baku and Karabakh agreed to a ceasefire with the assistance of Russian peacekeepers. According to the agreement, Karabakh’s armed units will be disbanded and its heavy equipment will be withdrawn and handed over.

It was previously reported that nearly 43,000 refugees from Karabakh had arrived in Armenia after the Baku operation.
