The spokesperson for the Russian armed forces’ East grouping, Oleg Chekhov, has announced that their units have successfully thwarted attempts by Ukrainian army infantry groups to advance on the South Donetsk direction. According to Chekhov, with the support of artillery fire, the forces from the East grouping managed to prevent two attempts by Ukrainian infantry groups to advance and also disrupted the rotation of enemy units in the vicinity of Staromykhailivka. Furthermore, a Ukrainian reconnaissance group in the Chervonyi area was also neutralized.
In addition, Chekhov reported that Russian artillery units destroyed a Ukrainian BMP-2 armored vehicle in the vicinity of Uhlesboronchana and a group of Ukrainian army infantry in the area of Vremevka. The spokesperson also added that in counter-battery combat, the Ukrainian military lost five mortar teams, and a kamikaze drone named “Lancet” destroyed a self-propelled artillery installation (SAU) Paladin in the Vremevka area.
On October 5th, Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the plenary session of the international Valdai Discussion Club, held in Sochi. During the event, the head of state stated that within just four months of the start of the counter-offensive by the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF), they have lost over 90,000 soldiers and 557 tanks.
Earlier, a Ukrainian soldier from the UAF expressed confusion about the reasons for the conflict in Ukraine.
