Israel’s Defense Minister, Yoav Galant, has ordered the implementation of a “special security situation” in the central and southern parts of the country, following a series of rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip on Saturday, October 7. The country’s Ministry of Defense announced this move. “Yoav Galant has declared a ‘special security situation’ in the Israeli rear within a radius of 0 to 80 km from the Gaza Strip,” the ministry’s statement was quoted by TASS.
Militants from the Gaza Strip infiltrated into Israeli territory amidst a heavy barrage of rocket fire from the enclave. Air raid sirens sounded in southern Israel near the border with Gaza, as well as in the Tel Aviv area. In response to the attacks, Yoav Galant announced a mass mobilization of reservists and declared a state of “war readiness.”
Later, in light of the developments, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu went to the Ministry of Defense headquarters in Tel Aviv for a consultation with the command of the military bloc.
Earlier, it was reported that an Israeli resident was killed as a result of the rocket attack from the Gaza Strip.
