Russia Forms Reserve Regiments to Strengthen Military Presence

Russia’s Minister of Defense, Sergey Shoygu, has announced the formation of nine reserve regiments within the Armed Forces. These regiments, composed of contract servicemen, have been established to enhance the Russian troops’ capabilities in special operation zones. “As decided by the General Staff, reserve regiments have been formed for each group. Currently, we have nine reserve regiments, and they are continuously replenished,” stated the head of the defense ministry after a meeting with commanders of the Russian troops’ joint group.

In June, Shoygu revealed the formation of reserves in the Armed Forces, constituting a separate army. He mentioned that over 1,300 individuals sign contracts with the Ministry of Defense daily, forming an entire regiment. Military expert Vasily Dandikin noted that the Russian Armed Forces will not remain solely on the defense but require fresh forces for offensive operations.

Earlier, President Putin had discussed the future of the Russian army, emphasizing the need for modernization and adaptability to changing military landscapes.
