Czech Republic Prepares for Prolonged Defensive War in Response to Russian Aggression

The Czech Republic has unveiled a new defense strategy aimed at preparing for a protracted defensive war against a technologically advanced adversary, with a particular focus on the growing aggression from Russia. The strategy, approved by the government, emphasizes the need to equip and train well-armed and combat-ready armed forces capable of collective defense operations.

During a press conference following a cabinet meeting, Defense Minister Jana Chernohova highlighted the close connection between these processes and the ongoing modernization of the armed forces. She also stressed the importance of comprehensive operational preparedness of the country’s territory, as well as the reception, movement, and support of potentially large numbers of allied forces.

This defense strategy builds upon the previously approved security strategy, which was endorsed by the government in late June of this year. Czech President Petr Pavel has previously stated that the European Union should expand for its own security. Additionally, he has voiced support for expediting arms deliveries to Ukraine.

With the escalating aggression from Russia, the Czech Republic recognizes the need to strengthen its defenses and be prepared for a potential prolonged conflict. The government’s focus on creating well-equipped and combat-ready armed forces demonstrates their commitment to collective defense and ensuring the safety and security of the country and its allies.
