Mayor of Vorkuta Joins Russian Volunteer Corps in Ukraine

The mayor of Vorkuta, Yaroslav Shaposhnikov, who volunteered for the Russian Federation’s special military operation in Ukraine, has announced that he will lead a volunteer detachment called “Pechora” consisting of natives from Komi in the volunteer Cossack corps. This information has been reported by RIA Novosti.

According to Shaposhnikov, being a descendant of Cossacks, it was only natural for him to join the volunteer formation, as it resonated with his Cossack heritage. He emphasized that his duties as mayor have been suspended.

Previously, Shaposhnikov revealed that he had signed a contract to serve in the Russian army and will be deployed to the special military operation zone. In October 2022, Shaposhnikov stated that 10% of volunteers were going to the special operation zone in Ukraine because their wives were “nagging” them. He came to this conclusion after speaking with mobilized individuals.

He urged women to love their men, so they would not feel the desire to go to the frontlines not out of duty to their homeland, but to escape an “emotional nagging.” The mayor of Vorkuta stressed that it is a critical time, and women are required to protect their men.

Earlier, Zelensky revealed what is preventing Ukraine from shifting the combat operations to the territory of the Russian Federation.
