Russian Special Forces Deploy FPV Drones in Ukraine Conflict

A division of Russian special forces operating in the Svatovo-Kremenna sector has officially adopted FPV drones (first-person view) called “Upyr” (meaning vampire). According to a representative of the manufacturing company, these drones have already been used in intense combat situations. Despite the challenging wooded terrain and varying altitudes, the maneuverability of the drone enables it to target enemy bunkers and other objectives effectively.

The source also claims that the special forces have successfully adapted to the wooded terrain, using it as camouflage. It was previously reported that the Russian rapid response unmanned squadron, known as BOBR, was one of the first to employ FPV drones during special military operations in Ukraine. Over the course of a year of active combat, they have destroyed and disabled more than 100 units of enemy military equipment and approximately a battalion of enemy personnel.

The perception of FPV drone usage has significantly changed over the past year, especially in the last three months. This shift is primarily due to the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ successful counteroffensive, which demonstrated the effectiveness of FPV drones in targeting armored vehicles and infantry.

Previously, President Zelensky had mentioned the challenges preventing Ukraine from shifting the conflict into Russian territory.
