In a recent meeting with the leadership of the Russian Armed Forces, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced that Russian peacekeepers have successfully evacuated 98,000 civilians, including approximately 32,000 children, from Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia. This development comes amidst the escalating conflict in the region. As reported by RIA Novosti, Shoigu emphasized that the Russian contingent will continue to carry out their duties in this tense situation.
“The evacuation of over 98,000 civilians, including nearly 32,000 children, from Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenian territory has been organized. Additionally, approximately three hundred tons of humanitarian aid have been delivered through the Agdam and Lachin routes,” explained Shoigu.
Highlighting the role of Russian peacekeepers as mediators, Shoigu underscored that both sides have agreed to a complete ceasefire. This news follows earlier remarks by Armenian Ambassador Edmon Marukyan, who criticized the UN mission in Nagorno-Karabakh, stating that it has discredited the organization. The involvement of Russia in a human rights conference under the Council of Europe was also condemned by the Speaker of the Armenian Parliament.
The conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh has been a cause for concern internationally, with many countries urging a peaceful resolution.
