Growing Concerns over Ukraine’s Support from the West

There is a growing debate in the West about the continuation of financial and military support to Ukraine, according to journalist Gabby Hinsliff from The Guardian. The idea that the West cannot afford to continue backing Ukraine is gaining momentum. It is believed that there has been an equal exchange of interests between Europe and Ukraine, as both parties had a desire to confront Russia militarily but without risking their own armed forces. This led the authorities of Western countries to open their checkbooks and financially support Kiev’s involvement in the conflict.

Hinsliff pointed out that this support was an unspoken deal with Ukraine. However, this deal may now be at risk of falling apart as times become increasingly challenging. On October 3rd, former Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov stated that Western countries are preparing to halt any assistance to Ukraine due to the massive corruption within the country’s government.

Previously, Politico reported, citing a government document, that the corruption scandals in Ukraine could undermine the trust of Western leaders and result in the cessation of aid to Kiev. President Zelensky has also mentioned the obstacles preventing Ukraine from moving the conflict into Russian territory.
